Dirk Davidson, M.D. Discusses Strategies for Financial Success at Alabama Cancer Congress

Oncology Partners president and co-founder offers insight on improving efficiencies within community-based oncology practices at industry event

CROSSVILLE, Tenn., April 20, 2009 – Dirk Davidson, M.D., president and co-founder of Oncology Partners, a consulting and medical billing firm serving oncology practices, presented strategies for financial success at the Alabama Cancer Congress, held April 16-19 in Sandestin, Florida. In his presentation, entitled “Strategies for Success in Community-Based Oncology,” Dr. Davidson discussed ways in which community-based oncology practices can boost profits and improve office efficiencies by carefully evaluating aspects of  chemotherapy agents and billing management.

As the owner of an oncology practice in a retirement town, Dr. Davidson has dealt with the unique challenges oncologists often face, including expensive prescription chemotherapy agents costs and complex coding. Along with Oncology Partners co-founder Kevin Combs, Dr. Davidson implements methodologies that allow practices to reduce overhead as well as optimize billing codes and relationships with wholesalers and manufacturers. These techniques are designed to achieve more streamlined office operations and as much as a 30 percent increase in revenue.

“I am pleased to have had the opportunity to share my personal experiences with fellow physicians,” said Dirk Davidson, M.D. “Oncologists at small- and mid-sized practices are oftentimes so caught up in patient care that the financial aspect of the practice can potentially suffer. By taking steps to evaluate the financial health of the practice, oncologists can avoid potential downfalls while minimizing inefficiencies and increasing their bottom line.”

The Alabama Cancer Congress was sponsored by The Alabama Society of Clinical Oncology and promotes the improvement of cancer treatment and management. Topics of discussion included emerging trends, the approach and management of various types of cancer as well as the efficient integration of new therapeutic options.
